India is a country which has given utmost importance to education since pre-historic times. Ironic, that the findings and unearthing of lost civilizations, the world over, never showed any evidence of having stressed upon it. They are appreciated for their administrative set-up, no doubt.

With our culture to disseminate knowledge which is of prime importance through our epics and other religious books, we seem to have unfortunately detached the healthy practices. Foreign invasions interpolated our system and today it is almost at the nadir. commercialization of it has pushed the human value practice to oblivion. Good practices of mentoring, counseling reduced to mere paper value. When the world is now set to adopt a new order of rules, it is the best time to re-think and bring back our values. The gurukul system as we all know stressed on by certain adopted practices to make a student self-reliant by teaching to be disciplined from within- now it is imposed discipline;  to participate in the daily chores while pursuing learning- all comforts are provided; to not yearn for a feast as it makes one lethargic- satisfying the palate occupies most of the time; to be satisfied in whatever limited resources available- every comfort in place ensures conducive atmosphere to grasp. The princes and commoners all had to adhere and there was no interfering by parents/guardians. Put your thought into action and judge are we heading in the right direction?
